DIRECTIONS FROM GATWICK AIRPORT

1.  By Coach to Plymouth

Take a coach to London Heathrow Airport (these run at half-hourly intervals) and change there for the coach to Plymouth. There are direct coaches normally every 2 hours from the central bus station at Heathrow Airport. Buy your ticket at the office in the bus station. It is much cheaper to buy a return ticket. From the bus station in Plymouth, you can take a taxi. This will cost about £4.00. It’s a short distance so you can walk. It takes 10 minutes to walk to the B&B.

2. By Train to Plymouth, via Reading

You can buy a ticket to Plymouth at the British Rail desk in the Arrivals Hall. If you are planning to return to London within four weeks make sure you buy a return ticket. This is valid for 28 days and is much cheaper than two single tickets.

The best way is to take a train from Gatwick Airport to Reading where you change and take the train to Plymouth .

It is also possible to take a train to London Victoria Station, cross London by Underground to Paddington station and then take the train to Plymouth. For details visit

ARRIVAL AT OTHER AIRPORTS

Your flight may also arrive at Stansted Airport (30 miles north of London) or Bristol Airport (110 miles north-east of Plymouth).

From Stansted you will need to travel by train to central London then continue your journey by train (from Paddington Station) or coach (From Victoria Coach Station). For details of onward travel visit

Location. City Centre - Plymouth Hoe

Directions to our Plymouth B&B. This information was correct when published - March 2011.

The location of the Athenaeum Lodge Guest House is between the city centre and The Hoe. Find The Hoe and you are very close to the Guest House.

The train station is 20 minutes walk or 5 minutes by taxi and  the bus station 10 minutes walk and for those travelling to Plymouth with Brittany Ferries the Guest House is less than 5 minutes by car.

Depending on where you are coming from, you may arrive in Plymouth:

By boat from Roscoff (France) or Santander (Spain).The Guest House is 15 minutes walk from the ferry terminal. A taxi should be no more than £5.00. If you are coming by boat, print off a google map to find out how close we are to the terminal. There is a link below to Google Maps.

By coach or train from London Heathrow, London Gatwick, London Stansted, and Bristol. The coach is slower and less expensive, the trains are more frequent. If you plan to travel by coach it is a good idea to book your ticket beforehand.

Britrail Pass

It is possible to purchase a Britrail train pass for use on the UK rail network in your home country before you arrive in the UK.  A Britrail Pass allows you to plan and budget for travel within the UK prior to your departure and is ONLY available to non-UK residents and must be purchased outside the UK.

By road: From the A38 follow the Plymouth City Centre signs for 2 3/4 miles, at this point you will need to be in the left hand lane.You will approach a set of traffic lights with a left fork marked "THE BARBICAN-THE HOE-THE SEAFRONT" Take this fork and keep on the road until you come to a set of traffic lights with a pub called THE WALRUS on your left.
Turn Left here, the guest house is at the top of the road, on the right.

1.  By Train to Plymouth

There are two routes to Plymouth:

Take the Rail-Air link coach which leaves from each terminal and goes directly to Reading railway station. Change at Reading for a direct train to Plymouth. Normally they leave from Platform 4.

Take the Heathrow Express into Paddington station in central London, where you change platforms for the train to Plymouth. The Heathrow Express takes 15 minutes and is faster but more expensive than the RailAir link. Normal fares to Paddington are £13 single and £25 return. For full details visit
